Fanart: 'Muchacho' by YukoRabbit Fanart: 'Muchacho' by YukoRabbit
:bulletblack:
| Year: December 2012
| Medium: Photoshop, Painter

I didn't mean to upload this picture anywhere, because I painted this for a gift to my friend.
However, here I am with this picture because I think it's one of my best work in last year, and it's a good opportunity to mention my favorite comic "Muchacho" by Emmanuel Lepage.

Muchacho is about the revolution in Nicaragua, and the protagonist is a young monk who struggles with his sense of guilt throughout the story.
I love the artwork coloured with watercolours and the way of describing character's thought and feeling in it.

this is nicely done, very detailed, tells a lot about the comic, I've never read it but I can get a sense of the drama and complications going on with the main character on screen.

Welcome ! It's a great story, and a drawing... Just a pity the end... But it is often so with this kind of story...

Haven't heard of this one yet so thank you :) Maybe I'll chave a chance to look at it someday. I trust you know what you say when speaking of colors so it really must be something. And your artwork is great! I like how the light glows on his clothing and hair, and those beautiful shades of grey and green.

Wonderful work  I could feel myself in the jungle of the atlantic region of Nicaragua. also you did choose perfectly the colours cause they were pretty used back then.

as a nicaraguan myself (who lived in these times) I found Lepage's work amazing yet the story was for me just the romantic vision many had of the revolution in Nicaragua back then, but at the end in real life it was just the end of a dictadure to the beggining of another, now with the bloodthirsty sandinistas.

It's very interesting for me to read a Nicaraguan's feeling about Muchacho.

The other day, I went to his workshop and lecture meetings held in Japan. He said he researched not only by the documents, but by some long-term field researches, so he must have known bloody side of the revolution. I guess he had some reasons that he didn't emphasize that. I would like to ask him about that If I got such an opportunity.

Likewise!
I'm happy to meet a French fan! I envy you because you can read other his works.
Muchacho was translated in our language (Japanese) last year, and this is the only translation of his books for now. I wish I could read another one soon.

If I had time I would translate (mainly because I think he DESERVES it XD), but he uses a particular way to write, I think it would be tricky ^^' but he may have english translation, I'm not sure though... :x

I had searched amazon.com for his book on the other day, unfortunately, however, there weren't so much translation than I thought, and most of them went out of print at that time.
I really want to read them, especially "Oh, les filles" and "Névé". So I'm considering buying some French editions, but I'm not so much confident in read them through. I'm studying French little by little, and going to try it, though.

I know some people who can speak French, and of course most of them are translators. I always feel a kind of frustration when I'm among them... because they're chatting about BD which haven't been translated in Japanese! I envy them! :D

...Wow, I wrote too long.

I never read "oh les filles" !!!!! Wow, that's a huge mistake....I read "Névé" and "la terre sans mal" also, and I have many prints of him *o*
but it's tricky to find his bd :x even in France...
So you speak french ^^ ? 私、日本話せるんだ =D
